TOKYO, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended losses Tuesday morning, with the Nikkei stock index plummeting more than 5 percent after the Dow Jones Industrial Average logged a record single-day plunge overnight.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 1,194.21 points, or 5.26 percent, from Monday to 21,487.87.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, fell 90.98 points, or 4.99 percent, at 1,732.76.
All industry categories on the main section retreated, with insurance, nonferrous metal, and oil and coal product-linked stocks comprising those that declined the most by the morning break.
