TOKYO, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks extended gains Wednesday morning with the Nikkei index surging more than 3 percent as a positive lead from Wall Street overnight after a rampant sell-off lifted the market mood.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 660.32 points, or 3.06 percent, from Tuesday to 22,270.56.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 53.74 points, or 3.08 percent, to 1,797.15.
On the main section all industry categories advanced, with oil and coal product, machinery and pharmaceutical-linked issues gaining the most by the morning break.
