BEIRUT, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The UN envoy to Lebanon said Monday that Lebanon has made "thorough" preparations for the upcoming Rome conference aimed to support the country's security forces.
The remark was made by acting UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Pernille Dahler Kardel after her meeting with Lebanese President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace.
"I congratulated the Lebanese government for its very steady and very thorough preparations for the conference," she said.
"It is a very important conference in support of the security institutions. This is an opportunity for Lebanon and the Lebanese government to state its desire to extend security institutions throughout the country," Kardel added.
According to the envoy, the UN delegation to the Rome conference scheduled for later this week will be headed by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
Meanwhile, Kardel also congratulated the Lebanese government for its smooth preparations for the May 6 parliamentary elections as well as its ongoing budgeting efforts.
