NEW DELHI, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- A 38-year-old employee of a multinational company was shot dead by police in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh early Saturday allegedly for not stopping his car for check up, police said.
The incident took place at around 1:30 a.m. local time in Gomti Nagar area of Lucknow city, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.
"Vivek Tiwari, an employee at Apple store, was travelling in his car along with his female colleague in Gomti Nagar Extension. Two policemen on patrol duty signalled Tiwari to stop for check. However, Tiwari did not stop, following which a policeman shot him using his service pistol," a police official said.
According to the police officials, Tiwari first hit the police patrol motorcycle and then rammed a wall while allegedly trying to escape.
"The constable told us he fired after suspecting the suspicious activity," the official said.
The bullet fired by police has pierced through the windscreen before hitting Tiwari. Tiwari succumbed in hospital.
